‘What'sthematterhere,mydear?’saidFagin,lookingin。

‘Lendahandtothegirl,can'tyou?’repliedSikesimpatiently。‘Don'tstandchatteringandgrinningatme!’

Withanexclamationofsurprise,Faginhastenedtothegirl'sassistance,whileMr。JohnDawkins(otherwisetheArtfulDodger),whohadfollowedhisvenerablefriendintotheroom,hastilydepositedonthefloorabundlewithwhichhewasladen;andsnatchingabottlefromthegraspofMasterCharlesBateswhocamecloseathisheels,uncorkeditinatwinklingwithhisteeth,andpouredaportionofitscontentsdownthepatient'sthroat:previouslytakingataste,himself,topreventmistakes。

‘Giveherawhiffoffreshairwiththebellows,Charley,’saidMr。Dawkins;‘andyouslapherhands,Fagin,whileBillundoesthepetticuts。’
